Anti-terror and national security laws will top the discussion list at this weekend's Australian Lawyers Alliance (ALA) national conference.

Held at the Hamilton Island Convention Centre, around 170 lawyers and academics from around Australia are expected to attend the three-day conference.

Participants will examine a diverse range of topics, including Australia's anti-terror laws; national security legislation and judicial review; the National Disability Insurance Scheme; disappearing witnesses; dangerous recreational activities; and "jurisdiction shopping".

Speakers include Justice Peter Applegarth, who will discuss the rise of documents and the disappearance of witnesses; constitutional lawyer George Williams, who will speak on Australia's anti-terror laws; lawyers Rod Hodgson and Simon Morrison, who will unravel details of the National Disability Insurance Scheme and the National Injury Insurance Scheme; and lawyer Elizabeth O'Shea, who will discuss judicial review and national security legislation.
