Women discuss life at new forum

A group of women lawyers working in the life insurance area will tomorrow (25 August) attend the inaugural Women In Life Discussion (WILD) group lunch, launched by Mills Oakley partner Lisa-Marie McKechnie.
"I've worked in superannuation and life [insurance] for a good 13 years and the one thing that struck me was there wasn't a small, intimate forum for people in life insurance who live and breathe life insurance like I do," said McKechnie.
"When I went through my client list I realised that they're all women. So I came up with the idea that we'd have a Women In Life Discussion group and that's where the name WILD came from."
With approximately 16 attendees, including in-house counsels from life insurance companies such as Zurich, tomorrow's lunch will be led by keynote speaker Alison Maynard, the ombudsman for investments, life insurance and superannuation with the Financial Ombudsman's Service, who will discuss recent issues and trends in life insurance disputes.
"It's an opportunity to share ideas and perhaps obtain ideas as well. There are a lot of new products coming out in life insurance. The whole area has very much progressed in the last few years," said McKechnie.
"It's really a forum where we can draw on the existing expertise and be able to discuss it in an open robust forum."
