A new community legal centre has been opened in the NSW mid-north coast town of Port Macquarie to provide legal services for people living in the region.
"The new Mid-North Coast Community Legal Centre will significantly improve access to legal services for the mid-north coast, providing assistance on a range of legal and related matters to people on low incomes and those with special needs," said McClelland.
"The establishment of the centre will assist in addressing social disadvantage in the region."
Oakeshott said the new service would play a key role in the community.
"Residents of the region have greater access to legal assistance to encourage early resolution of disputes," he said.
"The [centre] provides legal advice, referral and advocacy services covering a wide range of legal problems including discrimination, employment, credit and debt, consumer law, fines and family law."
Smith said the NSW Government would jointly fund the service, which he said "would connect mid-north coast communities to legal advice and assistance".
The Australian Government has provided $600,000 to support the operation of the centre over three years, and the NSW Government has provided an additional amount of $330,000.
