COMMERCIAL LAW FIRM Thomson Playford has outgrown its current offices in Sydney’s centre, necessitating an expansion of floor space earlier this week.

While not moving from Australia Square Tower, the firm on Monday increased its floor space by shifting five levels, and taking on another floor.

This is the third time the firm has been forced to negotiate additional space since it opened its Sydney office in 2002. Starting off with just two partners in 2002, the firm now has a team of 12 partners, a consultant, six senior associates, 15 solicitors, a paralegal, and administrative and support staff.

The Sydney office saw considerable expansion with the addition of a specialist corporate legal team from Sydney firm Ebsworth & Ebsworth earlier this year. The new partners, Lyn Nicholson and Ian Reid, and technology lawyer Margaret Calvert as consultant were said to add to the firm’s commercial expertise.

This move was one of a string of acquisitions by the firm. In July 2004, three senior associates and two solicitors — formerly comprising the entire industrial relations, hospitality and gaming practice of Acuiti Legal — stepped into new roles at Thomson Playford.
