After 30 years in London as an insurance and re-insurance silk, John Rowland QC is leaving the Bar and returning to Australia to join the partnership of Clayton Utz.

The barrister and international arbitrator will be joining the Australian firm as a partner from 14 February, having spent the last three decades at London's 4 Pump Court chambers.

Joining Clayton Utz' Sydney litigation and dispute resolution team, Rowland will provide clients with access to an in-house senior advocate.

Appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1996, Rowland has over 20 years' experience in commercial dispute resolution across a wide range of industries including insurance (particularly product liability disputes), energy and resources and construction. He is also an experienced arbitrator and mediator with Australian and international experience.

"Bringing John on board means Clayton Utz will be able to offer clients a complete dispute resolution service, with John's ability to act as an advocate for clients in both the courts and in arbitrations," said the national head of Clayton Utz' litigation and dispute resolution practice, Brigitte Markovic.
