The Victorian Government Solicitor's Office (VGSO) has appointed managing principal solicitor Shaun Le Grand as Assistant Victorian Government Solicitor (AVGS) to head the specialist team advising Victoria Police.

With over 17 years' experience, Le Grand has been the acting AVGS since 2010 after the former AVGS for Victoria Police, Kirsty McIntyre, was seconded to the Department of Human Services to head up their legal branch, which she joined on a full time basis last year.

Joining the VGSO in 2008, Le Grand will head the team of lawyers advising Victoria Police on a range of matters including ethical standards, police powers, crime, evidence, administrative decisions and state liability.

Le Grand has also served as a reserve legal officer in the Royal Australian Navy for more than 10 years, primarily in legal advice, advocacy and management roles involving military discipline law and administrative law.
