In a first for Victoria, Australia's largest list of barristers has welcomed nine new readers this week, all of whom are women.

"We are delighted to welcome nine new readers, all of whom are women, and one of whom is indigenous, to join the list in September 2010," said Foley's List chairman Philip Dunn QC.

"We have undertaken a rigorous selection process based on merit and have been delighted to discover that all of the candidates coming to Foley's list are women," he said.

The Victorian Bar runs the Bar Readers course twice a year - in March and September - and this year the Bar accepted 55 potential barristers, including 28 women and 27 men.

Those selected in the September 2010 Foley's List include Alexandra Burt, Ruth Champion, Marita Evans, Katharine Gladman, Panayiota Karnis, Louise Martin, Emma Mealy, Emma Peppler and Robin Robinson.
