A PORTRAIT OF the Honourable Justice Michael Kirby has been donated to the Supreme Court of New South Wales.

The portrait, painted by well-known Australian artist Josonia Palaitis, was an entry in the 2006 Archibald Prize competition. Palaitis has previously won the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and is a frequent entrant in the Archibald Prize for portraiture.

After consultation with Chief Justice James Spigelman, the NSW Bar Association donated the portrait it originally purchased in 2006 in conjunction with the Law Society of New South Wales.

The whole of the association’s share of the cost has now been covered by donations from association members, at a fixed amount of $250 per person.

The portrait will be displayed in the President’s Court on Level 12 of the Law Courts building.
