The latest edition of the University of New South Wales Law Journal was officially launched last night by Solicitor-General Stephen Gageler SC.

The launch of the thematic issue, titled The Future of Human Rights in Australia, was held at Mallesons Stephen Jaques and was attended by numerous high-profile guests including Justices Anna Katzmann, Ruth McColl, James Allsop and Julie Ward, as well as UNSW Law Faculty Dean David Dixon.

In his keynote address, Gageler congratulated the editors of the journal for having put together such a useful and authoritative edition which would be used as a guide on human rights issues in Australia for years to come.

The journal contains eight articles, all pertaining to current human rights issues in Australia, and primarily focusing on the Federal Human Rights Act.

Topics include an analysis of the National Human Rights Consultation, constitutional analysis of the proposed Act, insights into the ACT experience, and discussion of whether economic, social and cultural rights should be included.

Authors of the articles are Edward Santow, Lyn Carson, Ron Lubensky, Helen Irving, H P Lee, Justin Gleeson SC, Helen Watchirs, Gabrielle McKinnon, A T H Smith and Andrew Byrnes.
