A Victorian Supreme Court Judge, the Hon Justice Clyde Croft, has been elected as a Life Member of the Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA).

At a gathering last week which included Victorian Chief Justice Marilyn Warren AC and Chairman of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre Michael Pryles AM, Justice Croft spoke of his pride in the election.

"I have always believed in the great potential of ACICA as a focus for commercial alternative dispute resolution in this country and internationally. I am greatly moved by and thank you most sincerely for the honour which you have bestowed upon me," he said.

Justice Croft's appointment is the next step in a distinguished career as senior counsel and arbitrator, and Judge in Charge of the new Arbitration List G of the Commercial Court in the Victorian Supreme Court.

ACICA President Doug Jones AM said: "Justice Croft has been a driving force in arbitration in this country as a practitioner and contributor to the jurisprudence of arbitration. This honour is in recognition of his continued service to ACICA and international arbitration in Australia."

Justice Croft's election came in the same week that NSW Attorney-General John Hatzistergos introduced a new commercial arbitration bill which will effectively align NSW's arbitration laws with those of the Commonwealth and what is recognised as international best practice.
