The Victorian Bar has this week announced it has fulfilled a long-term objective of acquiring additional office space for future barristers by acquiring a $54 million site adjacent to its existing building
The Victorian Bar released a statement Monday noting that the viability of the land purchase has been in progress since March 2009, with settlement expected to be undertaken before the end of the year.
Michael Colbran QC, chairman of the Bar, explained that the purchase will release the Bar from the current constraints it experiences as a commercial building tenant. "It means a security of tenure of chambers provided by the Bar that are close to the Courts for current and future generations of Victorian barristers," he said.
