Allens Arthur Robinson has confirmed with Lawyers Weekly that about 100 people have taken voluntary redundancies at the firm.

The voluntary redundancy program, which was announced in April, ends today (26 June 2009).

A media spokesperson from Allens said the firm was still compiling the final numbers but approximately 100 people had chosen to take voluntary redundancies.

"The people who have taken it have been a broad range of people - from secretaries, corporate services and lawyers," he said.

The spokesperson added that a range of lawyers from different employment levels had chosen the option for varying reasons.

"People who have been here for a few years and people who have been here for more than 20 years [took voluntary redundancies]," he said.

"It's really right across the firm, where people have told us they're either going to retire, take some time out with their family, do something new and study [and] travel - a whole range of reasons."

Chief executive managing partner Michael Rose informed staff about the extent of the voluntary redundancies on Thursday night.
