The Western Australia operations of Gadens Lawyers will join forces with Christensen Vaughan, a boutique commercial law firm based in Perth, it was announced on Monday.

The combined practice will be made up of six partners, 17 lawyers and support staff.

David Albrecht, managing partner at Gadens in Perth, told Lawyers Weekly the current global crisis was not really a factor when considering the merger and both firms felt it was as good a time as ever to go ahead.

"Christensen Vaughan brings a couple of practice areas that we haven't really had in the Gadens section - insolvency, and a commercial litigation section and aged care," he said.

"Gadens have got a good client base and an existing good practice in banking and finance and financial services recovery so we just thought that all those areas complemented each other."

Lee Christensen, partner at Christensen Vaughan, said he was excited by the opportunities created by the merger, including the services that could be provided to clients as well as the career development for staff.

The firms aim to finalise the merger by 1 May.
