THE HUMAN Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission is no longer. As of last Thursday, the Commission became officially known as the Australian Human Rights Commission.
A statement released by the Commission last week said the new image is the first step towards ensuring every citizen knows that Australia has an independent national institution with the responsibility to protect and promote human rights in Australia.
The commission, which was established in 1986, is an independent statutory organisation which reports to the federal Attorney-General. Its legal name will remain the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.
