Modern Pillars of Governance
Renowned business leader Jillian Broadbent AC, Non-executive Director, Macquarie Group will join the Modern Pillars of Governance plenary along with William Cox, the global Chief Executive Officer for Aurecon and Michelle Edkins, Managing Director for Blackrock’s Investment Stewardship (US).
The plenary, which is to be chaired by Brian Stafford, Chief Executive Officer for Diligent Corporation (US), will discuss the tensions and alignment between growing regulatory complexities, the imperatives for innovation and reputation.
The panel will examine how this triad sustains successful governance of an organisation, with success demonstrated by its ability to be adept and agile when navigating “diverse trends and megatrends” in the economic, social and political environment - and 2020 has had its fair share.
Why ESG remains a priority in conversations on the corporation
Susan Lloyd-Hurwitz, Chief Executive Officer of the property group Mirvac, will speak on the ESG plenary, leading the discussion on sustainability strategy and the focus on trust and transparency. Under Ms Lloyd-Hurwitz's leadership, Mirvac has led the sector on sustainability in its investments and project design and delivery.
The panel is set to look at how ESG continues to remain central to board and executive strategy and decision-making, and influence the perspectives of its stakeholders — customers, employees, investors — in the next phase of the recovery.
Leadership and governance — Company secretaries’ panel
Fiona Last FGIA, Company Secretary for the world’s largest toll-road operator Transurban will be among a panel of governance leaders looking at the ever-expanding remit for company secretaries.
As new regulatory, legislative and business landscapes expand the governance function and practice, this panel will consider the sphere of responsibility for company secretaries. This panel will be chaired by Ann Bowering, CEO, Issuer Services Australia & New Zealand, Computershare.

Governance Institute CEO Megan Motto said more than 45 experts will speak during the two-day event.
“The first ever virtual National Conference already features some of Australia’s best-known business leaders including Michael Chaney AO Chairman, Wesfarmers Limited, Diane Smith-Gander AO, Chairman, CEDA and Ronni Kahn AO, Chief Executive Officer OzHarvest among others,” Ms Motto said.
