The Queensland Law Society (QLS) is investigating whether a Gold Coast law firm should be subject to further disciplinary measures following action against it last week by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading.
Following the firm’s acknowledgement that it had not disclosed its relationship with the real estate agents, the QLS asked the Office of Fair Trading for all relevant information it had to assist in the Society’s evaluation of any possible disciplinary action.
“Any information that Fair Trading can supply us will be critical to our consideration of the matter,” said Society president Glenn Ferguson.
The Law Society stressed the seriousness of the offence and said they were grateful the Office of Fair Trading had acted on the matter. “I am very pleased that Fair Trading has acted in the interests of consumers. It should serve as a warning to any other solicitor who has, or is contemplating any similar business relationship,” Ferguson said.
