DESPITE THE apparent savings that videoconferencing offers courts, the Federal Court has introduced new arrangements that mean parties have to pay by the hour for the technology.

The Deputy Registrar of the Court said a minimum one hour charge will apply to all videoconferences. Per site this will cost $245. Beyond the first hour, it will be $55 per completed 15 minutes for each Federal Court site to cover the hire of the facilities. The cost of transmission will also be charged to the parties.
