Two firms take new route
Two Melbourne-headquartered firms have announced significant office moves, citing internal and external demand as the core reasons.
Maddocks has ended its 20-year tenure at 140 William Street in Melbourne’s CBD to move into a new office in Collins Square.
Maddocks partner and CEO Michelle Dixon said the move was a significant development for the firm.
“Maddocks has been going through a sustained period of growth and expansion over the past 15 years and the move to Collins Square is an important investment in that growth continuing,” Ms Dixon said.
“Our offices at Collins Square have been designed with the demands of the modern legal profession very much front of mind.
“With the majority of our staff now mobile, the design of our floor plan includes plenty of shared workspaces and breakout areas, making it easier for our people to work collaboratively. There are also areas for our clients to come in and either work jointly with us or, if needs be, they can set up in a quiet space to do their work.”
Maddocks partner and chairman Mark Henry echoed this sentiment, adding that the new office contains some unique elements that will enhance the experience of working at the firm.
“We have a large outdoor deck on level 24 that will act as both a lunch and meeting area for our people and clients, as well as a spectacular function space,” he said.
“Our people will also be managing a cafe on level 24, which will be available to our staff and clients. The idea is to not only provide a place to get great coffee and food, but to also give our people experience in managing a business. Any profit the cafe makes will be donated.”
Meanwhile, employment law firm McDonald Murholme has opened the doors of its new office in Adelaide.
Established in Melbourne in 1996, McDonald Murholme aims to protect employees who are confronted by a more powerful and better-resourced employer.
McDonald Murholme managing director Alan McDonald said the firm decided to expand to Adelaide as there is currently no plaintiff-only law firm in the city focusing exclusively on employees’ rights, and not on personal injury.
“The new location brings the firm closer to our clients in South Australia, allowing us to assist with their workplace issues face to face,” Mr McDonald said.
“We understand workplace issues can be stressful to not only the individual, but to their family and friends, so it is important that the firm is more accessible to our clients.
“McDonald Murholme represents a wide spectrum of employees, from CEOs to clerical staff, who are in part-time, full-time and casual roles, against wrongful dismissal, workplace bullying, discrimination and underpayment of entitlements.
“We are excited to launch into Adelaide and help workers stand up for their workplace rights.”
McDonald Murholme’s new Adelaide office is located in Westpac House on level 24, 91 King William Street in the CBD.
