A mentoring program for Northern Territory Indigenous law students was launched in April by the Honourable Justice Trevor Riley, who initiated the scheme.
Mentors will share their insight, experience and knowledge, while students can use the lawyers as a sounding board and access work experience and networks within the local legal fraternity.
The program aims to facilitate the transition of Indigenous law students from the tertiary environment to legal practice in the NT, provide an opportunity for lawyers to be involved in the professional development of prospective practitioners and educate the legal profession in general about the contributions that can be made.
