THE TOP GUN at the Asian office of Clifford Chance will step aside next year to see a former Herbert Smith key player take on the role.

Martin Rogers is to succeed Denis Brock in his role as head of Clifford Chance’s Asian litigation practice before the end of the year. Brock will return to the firm’s London office next year, but will continue to be involved in the firm’s business in the Asia region, particularly with the Tokyo and Shanghai practices, as well as the region’s insurance practice.

Brock has extensive experience handling heavy commercial litigation and arbitration in London and Hong Kong, in a number of different industry sectors. He had also led the Asian insurance practice, and will now focus on insurance, errors and omissions defence for accountants and lawyers, corporate litigation and China arbitration.

Rogers has been based in Hong Kong for the past 16 years, and joined Clifford Chance from Herbert Smith in 2002. He co-leads the firm’s Asian financial services regulatory group and also practises in insolvency, general commercial litigation and arbitration. His focus is on advising the leading investment banks, major commercial banks, large corporates and regulatory authorities.

Clifford Chance’s global litigation practice head, Peter Chaffetz, said he was confident the Asian practice would continue its impressive growth under Rogers’ leadership. There are seven partners and more than 50 lawyers in the firm’s Asian litigation practice.
