Philip Kellow has been appointed as the registrar of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal, announced today (14 July) by Attorney-General Robert McClelland.

Kellow has been deputy registrar of the Federal Court of Australia since August 1999. During this period, he has been responsible for various aspects of the Court's management and administration, including jurisdictional matters, practice and procedure, rules and use of technology.

He has also been involved in a number of major Court projects, including the rewrite of its rules, the development of new and innovative case management reforms and the implementation of the Court's criminal jurisdiction.

As registrar, Kellow will be responsible for assisting the president of the tribunal in the management of administrative affairs, including staff and financial resources.

"I congratulate Mr. Kellow on his appointment. His success as deputy registrar of the Federal Court indicates that he will make a valuable contribution as registrar of the tribunal," McClelland said.

Kellow's appointment commences on 22 July.
