As many people embark on the regular task of updating their CVs, our experts answer the common question this year: "What if you have nothing new to add to your CV?"

This year has been tough for lawyers on many fronts. Thank goodness 2009 is coming to an end and the new year is looking more promising.

While there have been pockets of activity and opportunity, many lawyers have struggled to advance their career in this market.

In past articles of My Next Move, updating your CV has been suggested as the first step to advancing your career, but what if you have nothing new to add?

If you have no new skills or experience this means your career hasn't moved forward and you really need to consider how to reverse this scenario.

The solution isn't always to find a new job. Look for ways to enhance your current role, increase your networks or undertake some study or new training.

Set some goals to strategically work towards in 2010, whether it be with your current firm/organisation or another.

And good luck!
