Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Blake Dawson, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Gilbert + Tobin and Baker & McKenzie have advised on an $11 billion deal cleared today between the Government and Telstra to wire up the nation to high-speed broadband.
The deal was described by the Government today as a "landmark announcement" delivering historic telecommunications reform.
Mallesons has been the key advisor to Telstra on the deal for over two years, with nine partners and 22 lawyers working on it, while Blake Dawson worked with NBN's legal team under chief legal counsel, Justin Forsell, and senior legal counsel of commercial and strategy, Karen Delph.
G+T also advised Telstra, particularly with regards to the establishment of the NBN, the new regulatory regime and commercial arrangements with a value of $2 billion between the Commonwealth and Telstra.
Partners Peter Waters, Bill Spain, Moya Dodd and Cameron Whittfield led the team.
Corrs advised the Government on $9 billion definitive agreements between Telstra and NBN and on a $2 billion universal services obligation agreement under the leadership of partners Thomas Jones, Andrew Messenger, Byron Koster and James North, and special counsel Andrea Kennedy.
Those agreements included one on the universal service obligation (USO), signed today by the Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy and Telstra, which Corrs partner Thomas Jones said will be a "key plank of regulation in the new NBN world".
Led by corporate partner James Halliday, Baker & McKenzie advised SingTel Optus on its agreement with NBN Co on the migration of its Hybrid Fibre Coaxial Cable (HFC) customers to the NBN.
