Baker & McKenzie has advised Camco International Limited, a global developer of emission-reduction and clean-energy projects, on the establishment of a joint venture with Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the investment-holding arm of the Malaysian government, advised by Allen & Overy.
The joint venture was announced in London on 27 September 2010 after negotiations in Singapore and London.

Speaking about the transaction, Paul Curnow said: "This was a complex transaction, not only involving drafting and negotiating the documents establishing the joint venture and its subsidiary entities, but also a number of carbon services agreements for Camco's provision of carbon commercialisation and Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) qualification services for the CDM projects placed into the joint venture by Camco. We also assisted Camco to draft and negotiate agreements for the licensing by Camco of its trademark and brand to the joint venture, as well as advising on choice of law and arbitration issues relating to Malaysia."
