Webb Henderson has advised Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) on the commercial transactions underpinning its participation in the Next Generation National Broadband Network in Singapore, which culminated in the commercial launch of high speed broadband services by SingTel on 1 September 2010.
SingTel constructs and maintains the Layer 1 fibre network to OpenNet and is also a 30 per cent shareholder in OpenNet.
Senior partner Angus Henderson said of the deal: "The communications industry in Singapore has undergone significant restructuring as a result of the Singapore Government's funding of the NBN. The industry is structured into three layers - fibre network, wholesale services and retail services layers."
"Our work with SingTel involved putting in place the necessary commercial transactions with OpenNet which were necessary to build the NGNBN, having regard to the complexity of the industry structure in Singapore."
Webb Henderson also advised SingTel on its regulatory submissions to the Info-communications Development Authority on the industry structure in Singapore, as well as SingTel's bid for the OpCo.
The Webb Henderson team involved in this transaction included Ara Margossian, Andrew Walsh, Ken Ginn and Korolyn Rouhani-Arani.
