David Bradbury was one of the stars of Labor's campaign in 2007. He took the seat of Lindsay in Sydney's western suburbs back from the Liberals, who had held it since they came into government in 1996.
Bradbury won the seat after the Liberals imploded three days before the election when Gary Clark, the husband of the retiring member, Jackie Kelly, and Greg Chijoff, the husband of the Liberal candidate at the time, were part of a group distributing fake pamphlets linking the Labor Party with a bogus extremist Islamic group.
Bradbury, a former senior associate in taxation with Blake Dawson, knows it will be a hell of a lot tougher this time around.
Not making his job any easier was the resignation of the State MP for Penrith (which takes in Lindsay federally), Karyn Paluzzano, in May. The Liberals then easily won the by-election.
"Blind Freddy can see that the state situation is not too sound," Bradbury said.
He said that while he "doesn't miss timesheets or the billable hour", his background in the legal profession has helped him as a politician.
"My legal training has helped me as a legislator in Parliament."
