White & Case take 2 partners from A&O Shearman
Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its M&A and private equity industry practice groups with the addition of two Sydney-based partners, who will come across from a BigLaw rival.
Aaron Kenavan and Jamie Palmer will both join White & Case as the global firm looks to expand its global merger and acquisition (M&A) and private equity industry operations.
Kenavan advises Australian and global corporates, capital providers, and investment banks on corporate transactions, including listed company takeovers and mergers, share and business acquisitions and disposals, joint ventures and other forms of business collaborations, demergers, and capital raisings, while Palmer’s practice includes advising private equity funds, infrastructure and pension funds and family offices on their M&A transactions.
Both partners are coming across from BigLaw rival A&O Shearman, where Kenavan was a founding partner of the Australian business and led its Australian team, and Palmer had served in the partnership for nine years.
Speaking about the appointments, White & Case chair Heather McDevitt said: “The addition of two highly experienced and widely respected M&A partners supports the strategic growth of our global M&A practice in Australia and elsewhere. The new partners will complement our strong project development and finance and financial restructuring and insolvency practices in Australia.”
John Reiss, who heads up the firm’s global M&A practice, said: “Australia remains a busy corporate and M&A market. The addition of Aaron and Jamie is an important step in our strategy to build out our M&A team in Australia to ensure we have the team to advise clients on their highest profile and most complex M&A and private equity transactions, as well as providing public company advice.”
“Working closely with the talented group of partners in Australia currently, as well as our wider Asia-Pacific M&A practice, Aaron and Jamie will advise financial sponsor and corporate clients on their investments in and out of Australia.”
Firm partner Daniel Yeh, who is co-head of the global private equity industry group, said: “The Asia-Pacific region continues to be a strategic priority for many of our private capital clients across our global network and, with a renewed focus on diversification of investment strategies and geographic penetration, Australia remains a compelling proposition in conjunction with increasing efforts by Australia-based alternatives investors to strengthen their connections globally.”
“Aaron’s and Jamie’s extensive M&A and private capital experience further enhances our capabilities in this important market in support of our clients’ ambitions in the region and uniquely positions our firm to deliver our global network to clients onshore.”
