Sparke Helmore names 4 new partners
National law firm Sparke Helmore has welcomed four professionals into its partnership, with all coming from different offices across the country.
Sparke Helmore has appointed Ian Bennett (workplace, Perth), Catherine Morton (environment and planning, Sydney), Jehan Mata (commercial insurance, Melbourne) and Andrew Ferguson (property, Newcastle) as the firm’s newest partners.
“They are all exceptionally talented lawyers, recognised as leaders in their respective areas of law. For such outstanding people to come through our ranks demonstrates the depth of talent that we are developing nationally.”
The news follows the firm’s promotion of 19 professionals earlier this year. Mr White also spoke with Lawyers Weekly in March about the “positive evolution” of the BigLaw firm.
In a statement, Sparke Helmore detailed that Mr Bennett has served for over a decade with the firm, having commenced in its graduate program. He recently relocated from Sydney to Perth to help lead the firm’s west coast-based workplace team and reinforce its national capability.
Ms Morton is both a solicitor and registered architect, the firm went on, with a range of experience across both professions. “Her unique combination of skills in law and architecture enables her to provide practical advice from a range of viewpoints,” the firm said.
Ms Mata recently assumed the responsibility of head of the firm’s cyber insurance practice and has “extensive experience in this constantly evolving area, including advising on cyber policy drafting, acting as coverage and monitoring counsel and managing recovery efforts, including asset tracing, and subrogated claims, including assuming the role of a breach coach”.
Elsewhere, Mr Ferguson is an “experienced property lawyer specialising in the property development and off-the-plan projects space in Newcastle and across the Hunter region”, the firm noted.
