Firm: Baker McKenzie (Metis Energy)

Deal: Baker McKenzie has advised Metis Energy Limited on the acquisition of a 111-megawatt utility-scale solar farm development project in Queensland, which will set the foundation for its growth in Australia and provide the platform and catalyst to expand its renewable energy business in Australia and south-east Asia.

 
 

The proposed transaction is expected to be completed by the end of December 2022. 

Area: Merger and acquisition.

Value: Undisclosed

Key players: The Baker McKenzie team was led by partners Raymond Lou and Aylin Cunsolo and supported by the broader projects team, including David Cooper, Ruth Dawes, Macy Jong, Angus Kingston, Samuel Allam, Aimi Tran, and Dean Bao.

Deal significance: Mr Lou said: “Metis aims to be amongst the first movers to pursue the green energy business in Asia and Australia and to become a leading renewable energy company.

“We know that this acquisition is an important step to accelerate Metis’ growth, and Baker McKenzie is proud to be assisting Metis with [its] strategy to become a major renewable developer and operator in Asia. We are already on to the next project.”
