Mills Oakley has unveiled a major expansion of its insolvency and commercial disputes capacity with the hire of new partner Alwyn Narayan.

Mr Narayan was previously one of two directors at Sydney boutique law firm Craddock Murray Neumann Lawyers. At Mills Oakley, he will continue to leverage his extensive relationships with liquidators, bankruptcy trustees and with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and manage a significant portfolio of other high-profile commercial litigation matters. He acts for a wide variety of clients, including acting for insolvency practitioners in relation to corporations’ law claims, acting in corporate crime matters, advising with respect to Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) investigations and examination notices, as well as complex commercial and contractual disputes.

Commenting on this hire, Mills Oakley chief executive John Nerurker said that the new appointment was particularly timely.

“ASIC data shows that the annual number of companies entering administration has fallen to less than half the pre-pandemic average,” he said.

“All indications are that this trend is about to reverse and ATO recovery actions and insolvency litigation will be an important part of the mix. We feel fortunate to have secured Alwyn, one of the leading experts in this space.”

Commenting on his decision to join Mills Oakley, Mr Narayan added: “The Mills Oakley insolvency and commercial disputes team has the depth, expertise and national footprint which is critical for providing my clients with a comprehensive level of service. I am excited to be part of the firm.”
