Mark Rigotti MAICD will be the AICD’s next managing director and CEO. His appointment comes following current CEO Angus Armour confirming that he would not be extending his five-year term beyond September this year.

Mr Rigotti brings an extensive legal background to AICD, having been a longstanding partner at Herbert Smith Freehills. During his tenure, he held numerous senior leadership roles, including as the firm’s global chief executive from 2014 to 2020.

Outside of his legal work, Mr Rigotti has been the chair of the national children’s cancer charity Redkite since 2021. He’s served on the board since 2010.

AICD chair John Atkin FAICD congratulated Mr Rigotti on his new role, noting the value-add he will bring to the organisation.

“Mark has a demonstrated capacity to lead major organisations through transformational change,” Mr Atkin said.

“He has very relevant experience as a non-executive director, particularly in the not-for-profit sector. His involvement with some of our key stakeholders including the Business Council of Australia, Australia Korea and European Australian business councils and the University of Sydney will prove invaluable.

“Mark is the right person to be leading the AICD in the next stage of its development and growth.”

Commenting on his new role, Mr Rigotti said: “I am excited to join the AICD, to help it move forward from its position of strength and to achieve its purpose of strengthening society through world-class governance.

“I am looking forward to meeting members, our stakeholders and staff and working with the team to deliver an even stronger organisation that delivers more value for members and an even more engaging environment for staff. The AICD’s world-leading education program will continue to transform and adapt to the evolving governance environment.”
