HSF implements ambitious new strategy
Herbert Smith Freehills has launched an ambitious new strategy and established a clear framework to cement its position as a leading international law firm.
Over the next few years, Herbert Smith Freehills (HSF) will implement four core ambitions and make a number of strategic choices that will inform its decisions, priorities and investments going forward with the overall intention of solidifying itself as a leading international firm “known for its insights and diverse perspectives”.
This is in addition to capturing growth in new areas, including increasing dominance of private capital, the growing importance of the technology sector, cyber and data risks for clients, ESG, and cementing its leading position in Asia-Pacific.
Chief executive Justine D’Agostino said the firm would have the opportunity to raise its ambitions.
“We are crystallising our ambitions for the next phase in our firm’s history, focusing on our international reach, deep local knowledge in our markets, doing the best and most important work, building genuine client relationships, technical excellence and taking pride in the diversity of our people,” Mr D’Agostino said.
“This new strategy comes from a position of strength. Our teams are busy and the firm is successful and the temptation at busy times could be to drop the focus on the future. But we are not resting on our laurels and we are challenging ourselves to do something so different that, in 2025, we can look back and see how our bold steps have paid off for clients, our teams and for colleagues who will come after us.”
Chair and senior partner Rebecca Maslen-Stannage added that in “stepping up to meet” challenges facing the profession, they are strengthening HSF for the future under Ambition 2025’s “bold, brave and ambitious” framework.
“There is no question that our profession, and indeed our clients, are now facing rapid and disruptive shifts on many fronts. While these shifts present challenges, they also provide enormous opportunity when we embrace dramatic changes in how we practice, how we run our business, how we respond to clients and how we develop our talented team,” Ms Maslen-Stannage commented.
