From the end of January, lawyer Henry Jackson SC will replace outgoing deputy president the Honourable Judge David Parry at both the District Court and the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT), Attorney-General John Quigley has announced.

On behalf of the wider legal profession, Law Society of Western Australia president Rebecca Lee congratulated Justice Jackson on his appointment and welcomed the decision to keep a lawyer with current planning law experience in the position.

Justice Jackson has extensive experience in planning and environmental law and is often briefed in disciplinary and regulatory criminal matters. This, Ms Lee said, makes “his skill set highly relevant to his new role”.

“Henry Jackson SC joins an outstanding company of eminent lawyers with environmental and planning law expertise who have been appointed to the position, including Law Society life member and past president the Honourable John Chaney SC and more recently Judge David Parry,” Ms Lee commented.

“The community is fortunate indeed that a lawyer of that calibre has been found to fill the void that otherwise would have been left by the retirement of Judge Parry.”

Justice Jackson was admitted to practice in 1998 and has practised for 24 years as a solicitor and then barrister in Victoria and Western Australia. He became a senior counsel in 2019 and has been chair of the board of Francis Burt Chambers, maintained a pro bono practice, and has taught in universities.
