Forensic accountant joins Clayton Utz
A forensic accountant with international experience at big four accounting firms has joined Clayton Utz’s forensic and technology services team.
TJ (Theunis) Koekemoer, who joins from Deloitte, specialises in forensic accounting, fraud, corruption and misconduct investigations. He will bring to Clayton Utz extensive experience in these areas, as well as in forensic data analysis and in corruption and compliance programs development and assessments.
“Our clients are operating in a heightened regulatory environment in which it is not enough to be reactive from a compliance perspective; they need to be proactively identifying and mitigating fraud and corruption risks,” Mr Koekemoer said.
“Clients are also under increasing pressure to demonstrate their ESG credentials, including, for example, providing evidence that they are making efforts to eliminate modern slavery in their supply chains. We’ll be able to present solutions to clients as part of a broad suite of legal services available to them.”
Commenting on the appointment, Clayton Utz’s FTS national practice group leader and partner Paul Fontanot said Mr Koekemoer’s new role highlighted the increasing demand for advice and services in this area.
“TJ’s background and experience advising clients across a range of industry sectors and issues means he really understands what approach is required to deliver the right solution for the client. Having him in Brisbane – where we have a growing team – also gives us another senior on-the-ground presence.”
