Firm: Allens (Melbourne Water).

Deal: Allens has advised Melbourne Water on the Hobsons Bay Main Upgrade Project, which will see significant work done under the Yarra River.

Value: Undisclosed.

Area: Projects and infrastructure.

Key players: The Allens team was led by partner David Donnelly, who was supported by managing associate Skye Kirby, senior associate Mark Leersnyder, lawyer Tessie Chang and law graduate Paddy O’Brien.

Deal significance: The project involves significant tunnelling under the Yarra River to upgrade the key connection between Melbourne and the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee. It’s part of a larger commitment by Melbourne Water to protect Melbourne’s bays and waterways from environmental harm.

Mr Donnelly commented: “The procurement process recognised the complexity of the tunnelling works and the challenges of the current market.

“It is a real credit to the Melbourne Water team, led by Nerissa Taylor and Robert Belcher, that they have been able to create the right incentives for a successful project.”
