Firm: MinterEllison (Busways).

Deal: Busways has successfully been awarded the Greater Sydney Bus Contract 7 by Transport for NSW.

Value: Undisclosed.

Area: Corporate, transport and logistics.

Key players: The MinterEllison team was led by partner Jonathon Williams and special counsel Sian Keast, with assistance from lawyers Nick Meyer and Zoe Zhang.

Deal significance: The Greater Sydney Bus Contract 7 win will enable Busways to operate 1.1 million trips a year in Sydney’s Lower North Shore and Inner North West, more than doubling the group’s Sydney operations.

According to a statement by MinterEllison, under the contract, Busways will welcome around 900 employees, 453 buses and two depots.

“The expansion will see Busways grow to more than 2,800 people, 20 depots, over 1,300 buses, and 60 million annual passenger trips,” the statement read.

“Busways’ successful proposal includes zero-emissions technology, demand-responsive transport, automated passenger vehicle services, and real-time customer information to improve customer experience on the NSW public transport network.

“Busways will work with Transport for NSW to electrify the fleet, deliver a substantial capital works program to increase depot capacity, and introduce smart technology and real-time passenger information at bus stops.”

Commenting further, lead partner Mr Williams, said: “We’re proud to have had the opportunity to support Busways on the execution of this significant contract, which solidifies their position as Australia’s largest privately-owned bus operator.”
