Dentons hires IPT partner from HSF
After 34 years at Herbert Smith Freehills, a leading competition and economic regulation partner is joining the intellectual property and technology (IPT) group at Dentons.
Donald Robertson, who is also an adjunct professor at The University of Sydney, has been announced as global law firm Dentons’ newest partner, joining the firm’s Sydney office.
Over the course of his career, Mr Robertson has acted for Visa Inc and the Australian Securities Exchange, and advised on regulatory proceedings pertaining to the Australian Securities and Investment Commission, the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission and the Reserve Bank of Australia.
Speaking about the hire, Dentons Australia regional chair and Australasian chief executive Doug Stipanicev said that Mr Robertson’s experience will complement the firm’s existing strengths in IPT, as well as in its banking and finance group.
“Once again we are delighted to welcome another new partner to Dentons. Don makes a fantastic addition to our highly recognised IPT team, and his experience will be valuable for many of our clients,” he said.
“Dentons has already made great progress on its growth strategy in 2021. Lateral hires are attracted by Dentons’ strong reputation in the Australian market, our global reach that outstrips any other global law firm and the opportunities this brings for cross-regional work, and our commitment to growth and client service.”
Mr Robertson added: “I am very excited to be a partner in Dentons, to practice Competition and Economic Regulation law. Dentons is a firm with a global footprint and mindset, yet with connected and local management.
“The global expertise and client base is amazing.
“Being part of this network in this region allows me to provide clients the advice needed in a world which, more than ever, needs to establish and maintain strong global connections. The business unit in which I will work, the Intellectual Property, and Technology team, is an impressive, market-leading group. I am very pleased to be part of that group.”
The hire follows the nabbing of one partner and four lawyers from a Perth-based boutique, a restructuring and insolvency partner in Brisbane in March of this year, and the naming of four new partners in September 2020.
Recently, Dentons COO Dr Maureen Migliazzo joined The Lawyers Weekly Show, on which she discussed the primary factors that should be driving legal businesses in a post-pandemic world.
