Steven Clarke has been appointed by Squires, joining the global practice from consulting firm Korn Ferry, where he was a senior client partner specialising in the international law firm sector.

Mr Clarke will be stationed in Squires’ London office and have responsibility for building a global team that will work with the firm’s leadership to address ongoing strategic recruitment priorities.

In a statement, the firm said the new director of talent acquisition’s team will identify “identifying high-calibre candidates aligned with strategic hiring needs and ensuring a clear, unambiguous representation of the firm’s brand, values and expectations of the firm with candidates”.

“He will also work in close coordination with firm-wide leadership on integration and business planning to assure the success of partner candidates,” the firm said.

Squires added that Mr Clarke brings “years of experience working with the highest levels of management placing senior personnel in both FTSE 100 companies and global law firms, including several roles advising the management of boards of firms considering overseas expansion”.

“He has acted on high-level team and partnership moves, with both domestic and cross-border elements, across EMEA, the Americas, the Middle East, Far East and Australia,” the firm noted.

Speaking about the appointment, Squires chair and global chief executive Mark Ruehlmann said: “Our people are our greatest asset and this move signals our commitment to hiring the best and most diverse legal talent in order to solve our clients evolving challenges and grow our business.”

Australian managing partner Campbell Davidson supported this, noting that the firm was “delighted” to welcome Mr Clarke.

“His strong network of global contacts across many of the sectors in which we operate, including across the Asia-Pacific, will be a boost to our global recruiting efforts. He is also aware of the value the firm places on continuing the process of improving the diversity amongst our ranks and will make it a pillar of his recruitment plans,” he said.

The appointment follows the firm’s hiring of two partners and two associates from fellow global firm Norton Rose Fulbright in December of last year.
