In December 2019, South Coast Police District detectives began the investigation into alleged fraud targeting the 95-year-old man. A solicitor and a carer have been charged in connection and will be facing Nowra Local Court in the next few months.

Following extensive inquiries, the detectives arrested a carer in her home at Sanctuary Point in September. She was charged with dishonestly obtaining financial advantage with deception and police will allege that between February 2018 and July 2020, the carer transferred $275,000 from the man’s account while looking after him.

After further inquiries, the solicitor – who has not yet been named – was issued a court attendance notice on Monday, 16 November. The police charged her with four counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court that the solicitor, while acting for him, changed the man’s will so that the two women were listed as beneficiaries to his estate. She also assisted the carer with the purchase of a home, without the man’s knowledge.

The solicitor will appear in Nowra Local Court on Monday, 11 January 2021.

The investigation is continuing. More to come.
