Matthew Spain joins DLA Piper as a partner from King & Wood Mallesons where he has spent the past 13 years.
“We are delighted to welcome Matt to our growing Australian partnership. His extensive financial services experience will be a valuable addition to our [litigation and regulatory] practice, and enhance our class actions offering to local and international clients,” DLA Piper’s managing partner in Australia, Amber Matthews, said.
DLA Piper’s head of litigation and regulatory Australia, Cameron Maclean, said that financial services class actions have been on the rise since 2013, and coupled with the rise in the availability of funding for litigation means they will likely see this trend continue.
“Matt is a skilled dispute resolution and class actions lawyer, and his capabilities will strengthen our growing litigation practice,” he said.
Mr Spain’s hire follows a number of recent partner appointments in Australia over the past two months – including tax disputes partner Paul McNab and litigation lawyer John Fogarty, and five partner promotions – taking the total number of new partners to eight.
