County and Coroners Courts appoint 5
The Victorian government has appointed four legal professionals to the County Court and promoted one within the Coroners Court.
The County Court has welcomed Sarah Leighfield, David Purcell, Fiona Todd and My Anh Tran, while the Coroners Court has reappointed Coroner John Olle.
With over 25 years’ experience in personal injury law, Mr Purcell has an extensive background. This includes as partner at Stringer Clark for six years, with a practice specialisation in workers’ compensation, negligence and motor vehicle matters.
Holding extensive experience as a criminal lawyer, Ms Todd has been a senior associate with Robert Stary Lawyers and a barrister for nearly 10 years. She regularly appears in the Supreme and County Court and the Court of Appeal in criminal matters.
Ms Tran is currently serving as a judicial registrar within the commercial division of the County Court, having been appointed in May 2015. During this time, she has overseen the expansion of judicial mediation and assisted with the development of the pro bono protocol implemented within the Victorian Bar.
“I congratulate the four new appointees to the County Court,” said Attorney-General Jill Hennessy. “Their diverse and extensive experience will continue to uphold the integrity of our courts.”
Coroner Olle was appointed to the Coroners Court in 2008 and he has worked on many high-profile inquiries that have resulted in historic legislative reform. Prior to this, Coroner Olle worked as a barrister for more than 25 years.
“Coroner Ollie has been dedicated to the Coroners Court for the past 12 years and I’m pleased that he will continue to share his expertise overseeing important matters and inquires,” said Ms Hennessy.
