Ashurst lures lead partner from DLA Piper
International law firm Ashurst has appointed a veteran real estate partner to its practice in Brisbane.
Tim Mathers joins from DLA Piper where he has been head of real estate in Australia since 2017 and partner since 2015.
“He is a very highly regarded real estate lawyer and we are confident that his broad experience and commercial acumen will both build on our team’s reputation and assist in further growing our practice and client offering.”
Mr Mathers specialises in real estate capital transactions and developments and major commercial and retail leasing transactions.
He also regularly advises on energy and resources projects, hotel and leisure developments, infrastructure projects and M&A.
He has worked for some of Australia’s largest landlords and real estate developers, fund managers, energy and resources companies and ASX 200 companies, as well as government bodies including Destination Brisbane Consortium, Allianz Real Estate, Charter Hall and the AFL.
Prior to DLA Piper, Mr Mathers worked at King & Wood Mallesons and Herbert Smith Freehills.
“Ashurst has a very strong reputation in the real estate market, with exceptional credentials and client offering,” Mr Mathers said.
“I'm excited to be joining a firm with a global platform and for which real estate is a key priority. I look forward to joining the Ashurst team and to working with Damian Salsbury, Pauline Tan and partners from across the firm, to further extend Ashurst’s leadership in the Brisbane market and globally.”
Sarah Sivyour, global co-head of projects and real estate added that Mr Mathers’ expertise in capital transactions and property development perfectly complements the firm’s existing offering and demonstrates their ongoing commitment to invest in Ashurst’s global team.
Mr Mathers appointment follows the hire of partner Claire Dutch who will join the real estate team in London to co-head the planning team.
