FREEHILLS HAS acted for Babcock & Brown Infrastructure (BBI) on phase one of the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal expansion, one of the world’s largest coal terminals.

The Freehills involvement commenced at the project’s inception, with drafting, negotiations, construction and supply agreement, finance and other meetings undertaken by Brisbane partner Jay Leary in Brisbane and Justin Pelly in Sydney advising on project finance.

Leary said undertaking such a large project in a constrained global market is no easy feat. “BBI’s success on this project can be attributed to the quality of its team and the core team provided by engineering consultants, Connell Hatch,” he said.

Undertaken by Engineering Procurement Construction Management, the expansion takes the coal terminal’s capacity from 59 to 85 million tonnes per annum and involved constructing a third in-loading system, new conveyor system and major upgrades to stockyards.
