Jones Day onboards Ashurst IP expert
Jones Day has welcomed a new partner to its Sydney office, bolstering its IP practice group.
Andrew Rankine has been announced into the new role, after previously being part of the Ashurst partnership.
His work has also seen him navigate Australia’s therapeutic goods regulatory regime, as well as the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. He has been involved in counselling life science companies on a range of issues, from IP portfolio management, to freedom to operate, patent validity, and patent term extensions, a statement noted.
Jones Day’s global IP practice leader Anthony M. Insogna said “Andrew comes to Jones Day with successful experience working on complicated patent disputes across multiple industry sectors.”
“That experience will benefit Jones Day clients that operate in Australia where patent disputes play a crucial role in the life sciences sector,” he continued.
“I am very happy to welcome him to Jones Day.”
Partner-in-charge of the firm’s Sydney office John Emmerig said that Mr Rankine’s experience with Australia’s life sciences companies “will be a valuable asset as we continue to grow and serve clients in the region.”
“Andrew’s arrival sends a clear message that Jones Day remains committed to providing our clients access to the top-tier IP legal talent in the region,” added Jones Day’s Australian partner-in-charge Chris Ahern.
“He is a very good fit for us, and I look forward to his contributions.”
