Firm: King & Wood Mallesons (APA Group)

Deal: APA Group has been advised on its acquisition of the Orbost Gas Plant.

Value: Undisclosed

Area: M&A

Key players: The KWM team was led by partners Craig Rogers and Shannon Etwell, supported by senior associates Neena Aynsley, Amelia Knowles, Cameron Mew, and Gareth Howe, and solicitors Adam Black, Austin Chen, and Nicole Wieringa.

The KWM team worked closely with APA's deputy general counsel Amanda Cheney and legal counsel Liam Dunstan.

Deal significance: The transaction of Orbost Gas Plant by APA Group sees the group own, upgrade and operate the gas plant.

According to a statement from KWM, the transaction will enable the development of the Sole gas field in the Gippsland Basin offshore Victoria, and open up further gas supply for the domestic Australian market.

Under the transaction, APA will acquire, upgrade, and operate the strategically located Orbost Gas Plant to process gas from Sole and Manta, and potentially other fields in conjunction with Cooper Energy’s gas development portfolio, the firm’s statement said.

Commenting further on the matter, KWM partner Craig Rogers said: “We are extremely pleased to assist APA on this strategic acquisition, as they invest in the midstream infrastructure sector and play a key role in creating new sources of gas supply for south-east Australia.”
