Firms play role in casino development approval
Baker & McKenzie and Ashurst played a part in the NSW Government’s approval of James Packer’s Barangaroo resort.

Deal significance: The 70-floor resort is expected to include 350 six-star hotel rooms, 80 luxury apartments, celebrity chef restaurants, at least 120 tables and 10 private VIP gaming saloons. As part of the terms of the deal, Crown is banned from offering poker machines and its overall gaming space will be restricted to 20,000sq m. It is to be a ‘high-roller’ casino and locals will only be able to play if they are approved to join a Crown membership club.
